Suffered a bad bout of allergy attack over the weekend. It'd been awhile since my last attack (5 years ago?) so I'd become somewhat complacent. Ed and I ordered soft shell crab at a Japanese restaurant on Thursday night. On Friday morning, my face looked red and blotchy. At that time, it did not cross my mind that I was having an allergy attack and so I went to work as usual. By evening, my face had started to swell and was itching all over. That was when I started to suspect that I was having allergy attack. By night fall, my face had swelled considerably and I was starting to look like Amanda Bynes. Still, I was not worried because I'd had allergy attacks countless times growing up and I was confident the swelling would subside by the following day. Nonetheless I went to the doctor just to get some antihistamines. Went to bed early that night in the hope that when I woke up my face would be back to normal.
At about 12 midnight, I woke up to go to the toilet. What I saw in the mirror shocked me: the swelling had worsened significantly and my eyes were swollen shut! This was bad. This was REALLY bad. I'd never had an attack so bad that my eyes were swollen shut. Ed saw me and commented that I didn't look like myself. I immediately burst into tears ;p. I got dressed and we rushed to the hospital Accidents & Emergency section. The nurse took my blood pressure and temperature but thankfully everything was normal. The doctor put me on a heavy dose of antihistamines and steroids, but told me there was nothing else I could do but wait for the swelling to subside on its own.
The whole weekend was a torture. I couldn't go out and I didn't want to anything but stare in the mirror every hour (to see if the swelling had gone done). Eeleng and Tzuanne were in Singapore that weekend and we had arranged to meet. I kept hoping that the swelling would go down in time but by 5pm Sunday evening, I knew I had to face facts: I was in no position to leave home. I cried myself to bed in frustration and disappointment.
Monday morning and for first time in days, I was able to look in the mirror and smile. The swelling had finally subsided and my face was almost back to normal. It was a little too late (for Eeleng and Tzuanne) but I am just so glad to be able to see myself again. :)
